Superior joint and system protection for high activity dogs:

Performance Essentials is a supplement created for the "extreme canine". High energy/activity dogs that put a lot of stress on their bodies. Other joint products on the market are created for the average household pet, not for the needs of highly active dogs.  Extreme Canine® Performance Essentials supplement focuses on protecting hard working joints and keeping dogs performing at their best.

Overview on why it works:

Extreme Canine® Performance Essentials contains ingredients to combat joint damage on multi-fronts with ingredients to protect, lubricate, and cushion joints, protect and rebuild cartilage, fight inflammation, and fight oxidation. It also contains ingredients known as "adaptogens" to support optimal energy levels and stamina and help the dogs' system adapt to stress.

Glucosamine and chondroitin are building blocks of cartilage. Chondroitin is necessary for joint fluid production, which lubricates and protects the joints. Glucosamine and chondroitin work synergistically, increasing the effectiveness of each other. Hyaluronic acid is another normal component of joint fluid, which functions to thicken the joint fluid so it provides the best joint “cushioning”. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organic form of sulfur used for normal cartilage production.

The herbs Turmeric, Bosweilla, and Devil's Claw are all powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients shown to be beneficial in joint health.  Turmeric and Milk Thistle are also powerful antioxidants to help protect against free radical damage.

Ashwagandha root extract and Siberian Ginseng Root Powder are both well-documented herbal adaptogens shown to help decrease the body's sensitivity to stress, promote optimal energy and stamina.

Why do working dogs need this over the average pet? Working dogs are exposed to:

  • Increased stress on joints cause by repeated high speed “stops and starts,”  sprints, and high impact activities
  • Strenuous exercise which studies confirm result in high degrees of oxidative stress on the body, resulting in accelerated damage of cells and tissues
  • Both physical and mental stress far beyond that of an average pet, which also causes increased oxidative stress and system inflammation
  • Overall increased wear and tear on the body

Detailed Ingredient Information

Glucosamine Sulfate

Paired with Chondroin, Glucosamine has been shown to help repair cartilage and alleviate symptoms of arthritis.

Glucosamine is naturally present in the shells of shellfish, animal bones, bone marrow, and fungi. Glucosamine is a natural substance found in your pet's body, with the highest concentration found in healthy cartilage. The glucosamine in your dog's body produces glycosaminoglycan, which is used to help form and repair body tissues such as cartilage.

Chondroitin

Chondroitin is a substance that occurs naturally in the connective tissues of people and animals and is shown to increase the beneficial effects of Glucosamine when taken together. The use of chondroitin in dogs is an increasingly popular form of alternative therapy for canine arthritis and other degenerative joint and bone disorders.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a plant in the ginger family that is native to tropical South Asia. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has well-documented, scientifically verified, powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.

MSM

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulfur containing compound that is well known for its joint health benefits. MSM has been promoted as having powerful anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties, blocking the pain perception in certain nerve fibers before the pain impulse reaches the brain.

Vitamin C

A well-known antioxidant vitamin C also aids in the bioavailability of nutrients at the cellular level. It is also used as an anti-inflammatory, to stimulate collagen growth, and joint repair. Vitamin C is very important for dogs with arthritis and joint damage.

Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid)

Hyaluronic acid functions to protect and cushion joints by working to thicken the cushioning joint fluid.  This is key in the high impact world of the working dog. It is a key component in joint fluid, which serves to lubricate the joints as well as reduce free radicals and inflammation in joints. Hyaluronic acid is formed when glucosamine forms with glucoronic acid.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are included for their alpha-linoleic acid (ALA) content. ALA is a type of omega-3 fatty acid known for strong anti-inflammatory properties. Chia seeds contains the highest plant-based source of ALAs and has 3 times more omega-3 content than salmon.

Omega-3 is important to balance out Omega-6 fatty acids and promotes healthy:

  • Cells
  • Immune system
  • Skin and coat
  • Joints
  • Brain development and maintenance
  • Eye development and maintenance
  • Growth

Bosweilla 6:1 Extract

Bosweilla is an anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic herb that has been used for centuries as an Indian ayurvedic remedy for patients with diarrhea, arthritis, pulmonary and other disorders.  It has been shown in clinical trials to improve symptoms for dogs with inflammatory joint disease.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that plays a crucial role in supporting pet health. Free radicals are unstable, damaged molecules that threaten a dog’s immune system by attacking healthy cells and increasing the risk of various disorders. A powerful antioxidant like vitamin E (combined with Vitamin C and selenium) is crucial to improving and supporting immune system health because it reduces the number of free radicals formed and prevents much of the damage that could lead to serious health problems.

Milk Thistle

Milk Thistle is included in the formula for its antioxidant value.  Milk Thistle contains Silymarin and Silybin, antioxidants that react with free radicals, transforming them in more stable, less reactive compounds.

Selenium Yeast

Selenium is a trace mineral that is found in most foods and in every living cell in the bodies of humans and animals. When ingested, selenium is converted in the body to an enzyme called glutathione peroxidase. This enzyme acts as an antioxidant to protect cells from damage by free radicals.
